Male Maltese ~versus~ Female Maltese
Male or Female Maltese Puppy?

Which Makes a better Maltese pet Males or Females. I get this Question at least once a week.
So I decided to post my thoughts on my Maltese puppy web-site for you to read..
Everyone seems to think that they want a sweet little girl. Humm well.... My first response is ...
Why do you think the breeders call their females the B word???
Female dogs can really be something to talk about. The Male Maltese are the sweetest of all breeds.
If they are neutered! The B is for Bitch! "Oh I hate that word too.
" Although this is a very accepted canine term as far as Breeders go.
Even though I have had Maltese since I was 16 years old, I still do not like the word.
If you think about it what does it really does mean ? At least in my mind it means a "female out of control".
Male Maltese dogs tend to be more outgoing, more vigorously affectionate, more "in your face saying
I love you so much attitude ." Males tend to be more stable and reliable in mood, less prone to emotional swings.
Also I get a lot of ladies just wanting a Sweet little Girl Maltese they want to dress them up and put bows in there
hair there are some really pretty bows for Boy Maltese out there. And the males seem to leave them in their hair
as for the female will tear them right out. Here is a fun site to buy
Maltese hair bows.
Or herefor more beautiful
Maltese hair bows.
Male Maltese dogs tend to be a little clumsy ,and silly and prone to acting like kids there whole life long.
Have you heard that some males are enthusiastic thumper who will mount stuffed Toys . Well this happens with
females dogs too don't be fooled it can happens with both male, and female so there really is not guarantee.
I do suggest you take the stuff toy away if this embarrasses you. Male Maltese Always mean well ,and are easy
to love all the time. Little boy's love their mommies. Female dogs tend to be more subtle than males.
They're affectionate on their own terms. They'll request or demand petting, then reassert their independence by
walking away when They've had enough. Female Maltese dogs tend to be quicker to learn and are not as easily
distracted during training Sessions. Female Maltese dogs are less likely to be openly defiant or to engage in blunt
power struggles or Dominance challenges -- yet they can be clever, passively resistant, and manipulative
about getting their own way. For instance I have the sweetest little Female Maltese who I do love dearly most of the
time. But she is prone to mood swings, and emotional theatrics one minute she is so happy ,and Wagging her
pretty little tail....... Then some one got her spot on the couch or took the piece of food she had her eye on,
and watch out she will let them have it just like Girls do. They can be sweet one minute ( or hour later!) and
grumpy the next. The biggest FEAR I hear in people is that they don't want a Male because he is going to lift his leg
and pee on every thing. I also have people who had a Male Maltese and wouldn't want a Female Maltese for anything.
Back to the Fear .. If you do not neutered your Male he most certainly will Mark everything in his path.He will say"
Hey this is mine! This is mine! And so is that! So if you do not plan on breeding him absolutely have him fixed.
Most of the time if this is done ASAP (as soon as your Veterinarian will do this) he won't even lift his leg.
His purpose has been taken away from him to mark the territory, and his whole life's purpose is all about
pleasing you. . Females mark their territory also! Oh yes! They will pee a drop or two here, and three drops there ,
and a little puddle there. If you already have a Female dog at home now you know what I am talking about.
Also If you have a female dog, and want another one you'd be wise not to get the same sex. A neutered Male
works best in the same home with a Female,or two Males Maltese are a really good match. Male dogs have obvious
genitals, which can make for embarrassing moments if they become aroused or decide to lick themselves when
Grandma is visiting. So this is another reason to have your Male Maltese neutered. As of 2006 Eric my husband ,
and I are bringing home a new Water Dog for a (Pet and hunting companion dog) For us to go Duck hunting with,
Since the Maltese are not big enough to bring back the duck from the Bay. I have agreed. Guest what the SEX
will be?? You guest it he will be a neutered Male. Why? Because they make the best pets. Since I am not going to
breed them I will not need a Female. I hope that helps with the decision making. I also get asked do Maltese bark?
Yes they do bark, but Maltese are not Yappy dogs.
They are excelent watch dogs.
